On March 22-23 ,2013, "The Third East Asian Law & Society Conference" which was co-hosted by Collaborative Research Networks ,Law&Society Assocaition and KoGuan Law School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was successfully held in Shanghai. Luo Haocai, the former vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference ,attended the conference. President Zhang Jie met Luo Haocai and several keynote speakers before the conference. Vice President Xu Fei, Director of the arts academic committee ,Zhengcheng Liang, attended the conference. The theme of the conference is" Building the Asian Socio-Legal Community: Theoretical Visions and Empirical Challenges ".
Nearly 300 experts and scholars from China, the United States,the East Asia, the Southeast Asia, the South Asia, the Central Asia, the West Asia and Australia, the Europe, the South America gathered in SJTU ,discussed the reconstruction of the order of Asia in the 21st century, and considered all kinds of theoretical and practical issues faced by today's law and society .
During the Pre-Conference -- Graduate Student Activity held on the afternoon of March 21, Hu Jiaxiang, Professor of KoGuan Law School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, presided the opening ceremony , on behalf of the organizers of the conference. Professor Ji Weidong, Dean of KoGuan Law School, Professor Tomas P.Gallanis, the visiting scholar of all Souls College, Oxford University, David B.Wilkins,Professor of Harvard Law School, gave keynote speeches respectively. The conference was held in the Moot Court of the new Law Building in the Xuhui Campus. More than one hundred graduate students from around the world and our students and teachers listened to the speeches.
After the opening ceremony, graduate students from around the world composed the graduate student activity, and made group presentations and discussions in accordance with the pre-submitted topics. More than 10 internationally renowned scholars, Tom Ginsburg, Professor of Chicago Law School included, participated in the discussion as council persons.
